IRKRS Membership Types

Individual Membership – $75 per annum

Individual membership is open to practitioners with an interest in old-school karate practices and the training methodology researched and expounded by the International Ryukyu Karate-jutsu Research Society (IRKRS) and Koryu Uchinadi.

The purpose of individual membership is to:

  • Engage practitioners in the broader IRKRS community
  • Share research, historical material, and applied training insights
  • Support continued learning and development
  • Connect members to international affiliates
  • Individual members receive access to the IRKRS information network, including members-only resources and communications.

There is no requirement to change style, adopt the Koryu Uchinadi curriculum, or relinquish other organisational affiliations.

Associate Dojo Membership – $150 per annum

Associate Dojo membership is for schools seeking formal affiliation with IRKRS while continuing to teach their existing style or curriculum.

This category is designed for dojo that:

  • Value traditional research-based practice
  • Wish to align with IRKRS philosophy and community
  • Want recognition and international connection
  • Do not intend to adopt the Koryu Uchinadi curriculum

Associate Dojo:

  • Maintain full autonomy over their syllabus
  • May retain other affiliations
  • Receive access to the IRKRS information network
  • Are recognised as officially associated schools

This level provides a credible organisational home without requiring stylistic transition.

Affiliate Dojo Membership – $150 per annum

Affiliate Dojo membership is for schools teaching, or transitioning to teaching, the KU/YRK/AKJJ curriculum.

This category applies to dojo that:

  • Adopt the KU two-person application methodology

  • Follow the established IRKRS curriculum structure

  • Adhere to administrative procedures set forth by the organisation

  • Represent KU under the IRKRS banner

Affiliate Dojo:

  • Are recognised as official KU/YRK/AKJJ-affiliated schools

  • May issue kyu/dan grades within the KU/YRK/AKJJ curriculum (where authorised)

  • Receive access to the IRKRS information network

  • Operate under recognised technical guidance

Schools transitioning toward full curriculum adoption may begin at this level where appropriate, subject to organisational requirements.
